Neurology Fellowship Programs
The Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester includes
85 full-time faculty who are engaged in clinical and basic investigative
work. The Department consistently ranks in the top 10 nationally
in extramural National Institutes of Health research funding. Fellowships
are available for investigative training in many areas of clinical
neuroscience. The Department has 29 current
or accepted fellows training in 11 different areas.
One of the Department's major interests is in experimental therapeutics of neurological diseases. There are clinical research projects investigating new approaches to the treatment of many neurological diseases including: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease,Tourette's syndrome, the muscular dystrophies, myasthenia gravis, periodic paralysis, inflammatory myopathies and neuropathies, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, and AIDS.
Fellowships are supported by a number of NIH training grants. Other sources of fellowship support include private foundations and the grants of individual investigators.. Many department fellows involved in research training have successfully applied for NIH-supplemental debt-repayment ($35,000/year x 3 years).
Fellows are usually accepted for 2-3 years of clinical and investigative training.
