Set Up Lab Testing for a Research Study
The URMC Labs staff makes it simple to set up lab testing services for your research study. Just complete the Research Study Setup Request Form and e-mail it to LabSRSS@urmc.rochester.edu. We’ll design custom test request forms for your project and make sure our lab staff is trained to handle any special requirements.
Have a complex project? Need something special or not quite sure how to request what you need from the lab? We can meet with you to review the details of your project and help design the solution that best fits your needs.
Obtain Laboratory Fees for a Research Study
When you need prices for your grant submission or pharmaceutical contract, just complete the Request for Pricing form and e-mail it to LabSRSS@urmc.rochester.edu. We will promptly provide a written quote for your project.
Need something unusual? We can help connect you with esoteric and specialty assays, and help you find the best pricing to support your project.
Have a tight budget? We will help find the most economical way to manage your study so that you can obtain the most from your funding. The staff at URMC labs looks for opportunities to reduce costs by finding the best lab department to perform your assay, arranging tests to be performed in batches, and leveraging our lab’s volume to reduce reagent costs.
Investigator sites are provided with a Lab Services Manual that includes a study-specific kit re-order form. Complete this form and fax it to URMC Labs.

Test Sample Shipping Instructions
URMC Labs receives shipments from FedEx, DHL, World Courier, and a variety of other specialty couriers.

Investigator Sites are provided with a Lab Services Manual that provides study specific instructions on collecting, processing, packaging, and shipping samples.
Packing materials provided by URMC Labs are designed in compliance with IATA and Department of Transportation Regulations. Investigators may use their own packaging, but samples to URMC Labs must meet all applicable shipping regulations.

Specimen collection instructions and processing requirements are found in our online test index and in study specific URMC Lab Services Manuals.
Studies conducted in the Rochester, NY area may contact URMC Labs to arrange for specimen collection at an outpatient lab location if convenient for patients.
The following information is provided for reference only; all sites should follow their own department or institution’s phlebotomy procedures and protocols. Universal precautions must be followed at all times during specimen collection and while discarding used sharps and phlebotomy supplies.
