Specimen Storage
URMC provides specimen storage that is exceptionally safe and accurate, while providing easy access to samples as you and your study require it. Our storage processes will help you to feel confident that your specimens will always be available and viable.
All specimens are securely stored under controlled conditions at our dedicated facility. Storage sites and devices are monitored for temperature and security. A computerized monitoring system is built into each freezer and backup generators are on standby in case of power outages.
Tracking and bar-coding systems are used to maintain an accurate record of your samples and allow us to quickly access samples. Every movement of a sample is tracked and is auditable, so you can have complete confidence about the location and handling of your irretrievable samples. Equally important are our processes for identifying discrepancies at the time of receipt, so samples won’t get stored with incorrect information and labeling issues can be addressed before the sample needs to be passed on to you or another facility for testing. Our specimen storage system is fully integrated into our clinical trials management system, so that even when a patient identifier is revised at a subsequent visit, we can make sure that the information related to the sample in storage is updated appropriately.
