I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in the treatment of advanced hip and knee arthritis with total joint replacement and partial knee replacement. My practice focuses on the nonsurgical care of patients with hip and knee arthropathy as well as primary and complex hip and knee reconstruction including revision procedures for problematic hip and knee replacements. I employ modern techniques, approaches, and technology to provide up-to-date and evidence-based care that can facilitate functional rehabilitation and rapid recovery while optimizing clinical outcomes for my patients.

Native to the Rochester area, I have a sense of dedication and loyalty to this community. In addition, I value the advancement of the orthopaedic profession through political advocacy on both state and national stages.

Research

During my training, I received the Louis A. Goldstein and Mildred M. Goldstein Orthopaedic Research Award, which helped me pursue my research focusing on complex revision hip arthroplasty and improving/optimizing patient outcomes after hip and knee arthroplasty. I am proud that my experience and training allow me the opportunity to teach future physicians the practice of orthopaedic surgery, and to facilitate the scientific endeavor of advancing the field of orthopaedics through academic research pursuits.

Dr. Kaplan performed a right hip replacement for me in July 2021. I can't offer enough gratitude to him and his staff for their superior work. The whole procedure came off without a single hitch from beginning to end. Being Dr. Kaplan's patient has been a privilege. His bedside manner put me at ease through the whole process. Should I need further surgery from him in the future, I would not hesitate to ask him to work on me again. I also have similar comments about his entire staff including the nurses, assistants and physical therapy. This was a job well done!

My PCP recommended I consult an orthopedic surgeon about X-rays I'd had that revealed osteoarthritis in my hip. I was very concerned about where the conversation might lead - to a discussion of hip replacement surgery. After my visit with Dr. Kaplan, I felt very knowledgeable about my options and confidently made the decision to proceed with surgery. Dr. Kaplan explained the options very thoroughly, made sure I understood them, and put me in charge of making the decision I needed to make to improve my overall health and quality of life. I am so grateful for Dr. Kaplan for his expertise and his interpersonal skills and responsiveness. I do feel he is ready to close the appointment (as I am sure he is incredibly busy) sooner than I am. If I had not asked to see my xrays, I do not think he would have taken the time for that. He is always thorough and kind in his explanation and suggestions. I was sorry that the visit notes I read on my chart after described my ranges of motion and incision appearance. Neither of these things were discussed and there was no hands investigation of either during this visit.
