Professional Bio

Dr. Rubens is Professor and Associate Chair of Imaging Sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She received her Bachelors Degree in Biology at Stanford University and her M.D. from the University of Rochester. She completed her radiology residency at Rochester General Hospital and a fellowship in Cross-Sectional Imaging at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. At the Medical Center she has served as the Director of Body MRI, headed the Ultrasound Division, and most recently is the Associate Chair of Special Imaging (Ultrasound, Computed Tomography Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron Emission Tomography). She holds secondary appointments in Oncology and in Biomedical Engineering and is the Medical Director of the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound.



Her primary clinical specialties are ultrasound, body Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Her research and academic interests include prostate cancer/sonoelasticity, prostate cancer/diagnostic efficacy, contrast agent development-liver and vascular ultrasound, three-dimensional ultrasound, and US/MR/CT fusion. She is the principal investigator of an NIH grant to study 3D ultrasound elastography imaging of prostate cancer.

Dr. Rubens is an active member of the National Institutes of Health Diagnostic Radiology Study Section and sits on the editorial boards for Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Ultrasound Quarterly. She reviews for American Journal of Roentgenology, Radiology, and the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. She co-authored Ultrasound Secrets and has authored multiple articles, chapters and monographs for Radiologic Clinics of North America and Ultrasound Clinics of North America. She is the primary or contributing author of over 140 peer reviewed papers.

She is a fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, a fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and a board examiner for the American Board of Radiology. She served as the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Distinguished Scientist from 2006-2007 and continues to lecture nationally and internationally for the recently renamed American Institute of Radiologic Pathology.
