Patient Care Bio
Dr. Burns is originally from central New York and attended Haverford College, where he received a B.A. with a major in English. He did post Baccalaureate work at Bryn Mawr College.
After working as a newspaper reporter and grade school teacher, Dr. Burns spent three years teaching in the Western Pacific Island of Truk.
He subsequently decided to attend medical school, attending the University of Rochester and later pursuing training in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. He returned to the University of Rochester for training in General Surgery. As a resident he won several awards including the Chief Resident Teaching Award and election to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).
Dr. Burns has a special interest in Gastrointestinal surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques. He is an Associate Member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and a member of the Society of Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgery ( SAGES). He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester.
Dr. Burns is excited by the opportunities that the growing practice at Genesee Surgical Associates offers him. He welcomes all patients to his practice.
