Professional Bio

Dr. Leonard is the Chief Quality & Patient Safety Officer for the Golisano Children's Hospital. In this role, he oversees many quality improvement initiatives across the institution, working with physicians and staff to create a safe environment for pediatric care. He is the Chief Experience Officer as well, ensuring that patients and families have the best possible experience while receiving their care. Dr. Leonard is also a clinical informatician, partnering with URMC's Information Systems Division to bridge high-quality healthcare with our electronic medical record.

Research Bio

My research interest is Patient Safety, specifically



1. Developing and evaluating strategies to reduce the risk of medication errors and adverse drug events;

2. Integrating patient safety into medical school curricula, residency training, and continuing medical education.

- Percent effort: 0.25 FTE for 15 months; 0.5 FTE for 9 months.
- Develop new screening methodologies for adverse drug events and enhance a web-based patient safety educational program.
$629,482 over two years.
