Research Bio

Dr. Wittink is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. A primary care physician with additional training in geriatrics and mental health, her clinical work and research efforts focus on improving care for older adults with multiple chronic conditions and psychosocial needs. She has been the recipient of NIH sponsored grants, including a 5-year career development award (K23) and a 3-year R34 grant. Both of these grants focused on developing strategies to elicit and incorporate patient preference and priorities into care. She joined the UR faculty in 2010 to work with other researchers and clinicians interested in patient centered care and health care decision-making.

Most recently, she received a Leonard Salzman pilot grant to develop and test a computer-based tool that can be deployed in patient waiting rooms. The goal of the tool is to help empower patients to articulate their health priorities to their primary care physician.
