Strong Recovery Addiction Psychiatry Service
Mission of Service
In partnership with patients, families, and the community, we promote recovery from addiction and mental illness through an integrated healthcare system that values both cultural diversity and linkage with teaching and research.
Target Population
Strong Recovery serves individuals 18 and older with diagnoses of alcohol and/or drug dependence. SRMM has special tracks for pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS. Strong Recovery has always provided services to individuals from all walks of life regardless of social-economic status.
Description of Service Providers
Our service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers including two M.D.s who are ASAM Certified in Addictions Medicine with added qualifications as an addictions psychiatrist, another M.D. who is a general practitioner, registered nurses, certified social workers, a licensed mental health counselor, a family and marriage therapist and several credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselors.
Types of Services Provided
Our service provides an array of treatments including:
Outpatient Chemical Dependency Services (SRCD)
- Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) which meets 3 days per week (9 hrs.) for 8 – 10 weeks. There are day and evening programming in this track.
- Some specialized tracks designed specifically to meet the needs of Hispanic patients, women, the opiate population, evening dual-diagnoses patients, etc.
- Mentally Ill Chemically Addicted (MICA) meets 3 days per week (6 hrs.) for 14 ndash; 16 weeks.
- Aftercare services which meet weekly (1.5 hrs.) for 6 – 12 months are often coupled with specialty groups to better meet patient needs.
- Specialty groups (Women’s Group, Men’s Group, Family Group, Relapse Prevention Group, Anger Management Group, Abuse Group, etc.) are available.
Multiple modalities are provided, including group, individual and family therapy, and psychological consultation. Two psychiatrists and a general practitioner provide psychiatric evaluation and ongoing psychopharmacological medication management including buprenorphine.
Methadone Maintenance
Strong Recovery Methadone Maintenance (SRMM) provides comprehensive and individualized treatment for opioid dependent individuals. The program includes individual counseling, group counseling, monitored urine drug screens, and patient education and support. There is extensive linkage and consultation with the Infectious Disease Clinic, the High Risk Obstetrics Clinic, and other Strong Recovery services.
Special Features of Service
Strong Recovery services specialize in treating two particular sub-populations within addictions, opioid-dependent patients and patients with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. As a result, we have the most extensive services for methadone patients and extensive psychiatric support with a full-time and part-time psychiatrist. The program is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Licensed by the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
