Master of Science Program
Marriage and Family Therapy
Students entering our M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy Program will be exposed to the major family therapy conceptual and clinical models. Based in the Department of Psychiatry, within the University of Rochester Medical Center, means our students are embedded in a clinical practice site/hospital vs. a college campus type setting. This setting provides the unique opportunity to learn about mental health and families in a collaborative interdisciplinary context.
Clinical training will be with a diverse client population, presenting the full range of individual, couple, and family problems. All students will participate in live family therapy supervision, a team approach in which all families are seen by students under the supportive eye of an Approved Supervisor in marriage and family therapy.
We have several OMH approved mental health care settings where our students gain the required clinical hours, and skills. This rich, multi-disciplinary context will prepare creative and competent marriage and family therapists to work with individuals, couples, and families in a variety of settings including Inpatient facilities, Employee Assistance Programs, Health Maintenance Organizations, Community Mental Health Centers, Business and Consulting Companies, Schools and Head Start Centers, Social Service Agencies, Universities and Research Centers, Courts and Prisons, and Private Practice. See our Faq section from the AAMFT website for more information regarding Marriage and Family Therapist.
