5-Hour Supervision Refresher Course
PSI 487 / CRN 18593 / 0.0 credit hrs
The 5-hour course is designed for AAMFT Supervisors who seek renewal of their supervisor designation. It is an interactive and intensive five hour course for experienced supervisors. The course content is geared towards current developments in supervision. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Learning Objectives
Review and discuss:
- Current supervision literature
- Common ethical dilemmas and legal issues
- Issues related to developing, establishing and maintaining supervision contracts
- Cultural, gender and socioeconomic issues in therapy and supervision
- Standards for becoming an Approved Supervisor and the role of Approved Supervisor Mentor

The 30 hour course is for individuals seeking the AAMFT Approved supervisor designation. Participants will become familiar with supervision literature, theories, techniques and skills.
Course Fee: Standard UR Tuition fees apply ($1340 X 3.0 Total = $4,020.00)

Learning Objectives
- Describe several major models of marriage and family therapy and marriage and family therapy supervision, and contrast these models on philosophical and pragmatic issues
- Articulate a personal and preferred model of supervision and relate this to a preferred model of therapy as well as existing models of supervision
- Demonstrate skills in assessing progress in therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client subsystems
- Demonstrate skills in monitoring, evaluating, and identifying problems in the therapist-client and supervisor therapist-client
- Demonstrate skills in structuring supervision, problem solving, and implementing supervisory interventions in a range of supervisory modalities (for example, live supervision, videotaped supervision) Develop appropriate sensitivity for issues of gender, race, class and culture in supervision
- Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity of the ethical and legal issues involved in marriage and family therapy as stated in the AAMFT Code of Ethical Principles for Marriage and Family Therapists.
- Demonstrate functional understanding of the requirements and procedures for supervising applicants for AAMFT Clinical membership and the AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation as described in AAMFT membership Requirements and The AAMFT Approved Supervisor Designation: Standards and Responsibilities Handbook
