Since our original accreditation in 1954, we have been providing excellent training in obstetrics & gynecology. The mission of our training program is guided by the motto of the University of Rochester: Meliora- ever better. We are dedicated to the education and training of obstetrician-gynecologists who will provide medicine of the highest order, expand knowledge, advance medical care through innovation, and who will, in turn, prepare the next generation of leaders in our specialty. Our program is distinguished in several areas, starting with our extraordinary faculty and residents. Our training sites include both an academic medical center and an affiliated community hospital, providing our residents with a more diverse experience and access to both an academic faculty representing all the OB-GYN specialties and a part-time faculty offering the best of generalist care. Residents in our program take an active role in the governance of the program and education of their fellow residents including such activities as Resident Council meetings on the departmental and university levels, resident representation on departmental committees, and “4th lecture”, a resident-developed and led educational hour during weekly lecture time. Our program was an early adopter and proponent of work hours rules that promote quality of life both at work and at home and we rely on resident input into the schedule & curriculum with the aim of improving the program and increasing resident satisfaction.
