URMC Labs - Clinical Laboratory Services

Gastrointestinal Pathology

The GI Subspecialty service at Strong Memorial Hospital processes over 16,000 cases annually, including over 14,000 biopsy cases and almost 2,000 resections. Our pathologists provide histopathologic diagnostic services for the entire luminal GI tract, including both medical and neoplastic processes.

We are active participants in a number of multi-disciplinary conferences at URMC, including GI oncology, hepatobiliary tumor board and liver transplant. The pathologists in the GI Subspecialty service are engaged in active research programs and teach medical students, pathology residents, clinical residents and fellows.

Many of our GI pathologists are additionallly trained in liver pathology. We also assist Dr. Katzman with interpretation of pediatric endoscopic biopsies.
