Fellowship at University Urology

URMC Fellowship Student

The Urology Department offers a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Urological Surgery, covering both laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Responsibilities of the fellow include perioperative and intraoperative care of patients undergoing complex laparoscopic urologic procedures. This includes operating on the adrenals, kidneys, bladder and prostate. The fellow will also be involved in performing da Vinci robotic urologic procedures such as robotic prostatectomies and pyeloplasties.

Our program has a very large volume of minimally invasive urologic surgeries. Graded surgical responsibility will be given to the fellow for individual operative cases. Data collection, analysis and presentations at national meetings are an integral part of this fellowship.

The fellow will have protected time to pursue clinical and basic science research opportunities. Additional responsibilities include participation in teaching residents and medical students in the evaluation and treatment of patients in all aspects of urology, with particular emphasis on laparoscopy and robotics. The fellow will be involved as a participant and instructor in ongoing dry and wet laboratory sessions designed for the residents and medical students.

The duration of the fellowship is one year. Salary is equivalent to University of Rochester Medical Center PGY 6 level. Prerequisites include completion of an approved ACGME urology residency or foreign urologic training program equivalent. A valid New York State License is required.

Applications can be obtained through The Endourological Society. Interested graduates of formal urology training programs should forward their application, CV and 2 to 3 letters of recommendation with a cover letter to the attention of Jean Joseph, M.D. and Erdal Erturk, M.D., c/o Stephany Greenough.
