I am deeply committed to furthering the health of children through patient consultation, organized advocacy, clinical research, quality improvement, and a dedication to lifelong education. Clinically, my aim is to care for each patient and their family from a holistic perspective, incorporating evidence-based medicine with patient and family values into care plans. I approach treatment from a biopsychosocial perspective and view health as inclusive of all aspects of a patient’s life, including nutrition and behavioral health. I view myself as a partner with families to advocate for and achieve optimal health outcomes and quality of life.

My role as a board-certified subspecialist in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition includes caring for patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting and also more globally through child health advocacy, quality improvement, and research. My focus in the field lies in the role of nutrition in health and specifically in inflammatory bowel diseases. On a national level, I am active in the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and serve as a member of the executive board for the Council on Healthy Mental and Emotional Development of the Child. I chair the Government and Industry Affairs Committee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation where I lead state and federal efforts to advocate for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. I am the site Principal Investigator for the quality improvement Improve Care Now initiative, which seeks to implement best-practices for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. Through the North American Society for Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, I am engaged in the Nutrition Committee and specifically contribute to their ‘food as medicine’ and ‘culinary medicine subgroups’ where we explore the role of diet in gastrointestinal health. My involvement in professional societies allows me to enact change for patients on a broader scale and to bring knowledge from these organizations to the bedside.
