Surgical Dislocation

In surgical hip dislocation, your surgeon gently removes your femur from its socket in order to fix problems that cannot be addressed otherwise.

Why would I need surgical dislocation?

The structure of your body may get in the way of other, less-invasive techniques. Surgical dislocation gives your physician an unobstructed view of the damage within the hip joint.

Here are some of the conditions that may require surgical dislocation:

  • Severe femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
  • Femoral head deformities (Legg-Calve-Perthes, slipped capital femoral epiphysis)
  • Articular cartilage defects
  • Post-traumatic deformities
