From the Director
Welcome to the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, a world leader in research, education and clinical care. The name is new (read our news release), but the steadfast commitment to improving oral health in Rochester and around the world is nearly 100 years old.
The new Eastman Institute for Oral Health replaces the Eastman Dental Center as a division within the University of Rochester Medical Center, functioning as the integrated entity responsible for education, research, and clinical care in oral health.
Hundreds of dentists and students from around the world each year apply for our highly competitive residency positions in our general and pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics/TMJ, and oral and maxillofacial surgery programs.
Our researchers continue to gain international attention for their breakthrough discoveries. Some areas of Eastman Institute for Oral Health research include dental caries and biofilms, periodontal diagnosis and therapy, skeletal, alveolar and dental tissue regeneration, craniofacial development, and salivary function, just to name a few.
True to George Eastman's original mission, helping the people in our community who can't afford care is very much an important part of our service. Eastman Dental is the largest oral health service provider for Rochester's underserved community.
We are in the midst of making major changes to better serve our patients. A new Urgent Care Center will be ready in January and we're renovating space and streamlining operations at all our sites.
We value our relationship with our patients, alumni, residents, faculty, staff and many friends, and will keep you informed of developments and progress. As always, we remain focused on providing unparalleled education, clinical service and research.
