People & Research

The Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology currently has 16 tenure-stream faculty, 1 emeritus faculty, and 3 research faculty. Our department has a long record of excellence in methodological and collaborative research.

  • Drs. Sally Thurston, Tanzy Love, Matt McCall, and David Oakes are members of the University of Rochester’s Environmental Health Sciences Center (EHSC). They collaborate with many faculty in the EHSC and also provide statistical support and services to EHSC researchers through the EHSC Biostatistics Facility Core.
  • The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource for the Wilmot Cancer Center, co-directed by Drs. Derick Peterson and Matt McCall, provides statistical support and collaborative activities for Wilmot Cancer Institute investigators. This includes study design and conduct; grant, protocol, and manuscript preparation; protocol review; and Data and Safety Monitoring Committee activities.
  • Dr. Robert Strawderman is Co-Function Leader for Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design for the University of Rochester’s Clinical & Translational Science Institute (UR CTSI) and Program Director for the UR CTSI’s novel biostatistical and epidemiological methodology pilot program. Department faculty, staff, and students contribute to the UR CTSI in other ways, including through the Department’s consulting service.

The Department has strong collaborative relationships with many other clinical and basic science departments, divisions and centers, including Neurology, Environmental Medicine, Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, Cardiology, Pediatrics, EIOH, Infectious Diseases, Public Health Sciences, Biomedical Genetics and Biomedical Engineering. Many members of the Department are also affiliated members of the Goergen Institute for Data Science.
