Pediatric Audiology

Audiology offers comprehensive services for infants, children, and adolescents with a wide variety of disorders including hearing loss, balance problems, and dizziness.

Services are provided at Golisano Children's Hospital for children who are hospitalized, as well as through our outpatient clinics. Children may be referred to us by their pediatrician/family physician or by a pediatric subspecialist.

Our Team

Our audiologists have a special interest in pediatrics and are experts in human communication, its development and its disorders. They are integral members on many of the hospital's interdisciplinary and developmental evaluation teams and are uniquely qualified to handle medically-complex cases.

Audiology services include, but are not limited to:

  • Hearing screening for newborns and children
  • Follow-up and management of:
    • Neonatal intensive care patients at risk of developing hearing loss due to conditions present at birth
    • Infants and children with chromosomal and genetic abnormalities
    • Children at risk of developing hearing loss due to:
      • Ear disease
      • Head or ear injury
      • Noise exposure
      • Therapeutic drug treatment (ototoxic drug monitoring)
  • For children who are diagnosed with hearing impairment, we offer:
    • Evaluation and dispensing of hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and alerting devices
    • Cochlear implant fitting and tuning. Get more information about cochlear implants.
    • Counseling and education:
      • Adjusting to hearing loss
      • The use of hearing instruments
      • Community resources

When you call to make an appointment, you will be asked to have your pediatrician's office fax your child's medical information to us. If a referral is required, you will be instructed to obtain an insurance referral.
