Educational Liaison Program

Our Educational Liaison Program is one of only five programs nationally that provides comprehensive educational liaison services to patients with cancer, brain tumors, and blood disorders.

The purpose of the Educational Liaison Program is to support our young patients as they continue with their education while undergoing treatment. Our liaison meets with school personnel, including teachers, school nurses, and administrators, to help them understand the short-term and long-term effects that these diseases have on the learning abilities of children. Together, we coordinate tutoring; provide school reentry visits; and advocate for school services to help these children transition back into daily living. Our liaison speaks to classmates to help them better understand the challenges that their young friends with blood disorders and cancer face.

With the generous support of CURE, the program has enabled open communication between parent, educators, and healthcare providers to ensure that each child obtains the necessary resources to be successful.
