Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The University of Rochester Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

The Office of Continuing Professional Education has now been integrated with the Center for Experiential Learning led by Sarah Peyre, Ed.D.

The CEL is an exciting new initiative that will foster support of educational activities across URMC by offering centralized tools, expertise, and services. The CEL will help our health care professionals maintain and update their skills and knowledge through strong inter-professional educational programs and partnerships involving Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, Eastman Institute for Oral Health, School of Nursing, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing Practice, Graduate Medical Education, community providers, and beyond.

As a major pillar in support of URMC’s strategic education planning, the CEL will play a vital role in the Medical Center’s ability to practice safe, effective, and compassionate clinical care. The ultimate educational outcomes for the CEL will be improved performance across all four URMC missions - Education, Research, Patient Care, and Community Health - provided by well-trained teams of health care providers, teachers, and scientists in all disciplines.

Gastroenterology/Hepatology and Primary Care Collaborations in Everyday Practice

Gastrointestinal and hepatology disease management is advancing at a fast pace. The basis for the day's agenda includes the many issues faced by primary care physicians in the office setting including controversies in PPI usage, increasing number of cases of refractory Clostridium Difficele, biologic therapies for inflammatory diseases, and abnormal imaging results of the liver with unclear guidelines as to where to direct care. This course will provide the thorough and practical treatment updates that primary care physicians and nurses can readily apply in their care for patients with gastrointestinal and hepatology diseases.

Continuing Professional Education strives to maintain standards by constantly evaluating the balance of approaches to meet institutional requirements as well as the perceived and expressed needs of our learning audience.
