Welcome from Program Director
Our goal at the University of Rochester Medical Center is to provide a supportive framework for fellows to enhance their intellectual growth and to develop outstanding patient care in Nephrology. The strengths of our fellowship include approachable faculty members who are all committed to fellow education, a large and diverse patient population with a large variety of kidney disorders and the right balance of autonomy and support.
This is a two year fellowship. We take three fellows per year, for a total of six fellows in training
Fellows rotate on three inpatient services (consultation, transplant, dialysis) all in one hospital, and also spend time in outpatient clinical settings (peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, pathology, radiology, tissue typing, plasmapheresis, critical care). They are mentored on research and continuous quality improvement projects. A formal educational curriculum spans the two years and is constantly updated by faculty and fellows to enhance learning. Scholarship, approach to medical literature, research and presentation skills are emphasized.
We have large and growing hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplant populations. We have many ICU’s in our institution where fellows become proficient in continuous renal replacement therapy.
Our pass rate for the boards has been 100%.
Our graduates have all gone on to successful careers in private practice, academia and industry.
The quality of life in Rochester is a well-kept secret (Shhhh!). It is one of the most affordable and safest places to live. The average commute is 20 minutes (less for most fellows) and the schools in the local suburbs are among the best in the nation. There are many cultural amenities and wonderful outdoor things to do as well (hiking, biking, snow and water sports).
We look forward to meeting you!
