AIDS Clinical Trials Unit
The University of Rochester AIDS Clinical Trial Unit (ACTU) was one of the first 10 sites funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in 1986. Since that time, the unit has enrolled over 1800 participants in more than 50 studies.
The University of Rochester ACTU, currently under the direction of Dr. Amneris Luque, is a part of a large NIH cooperative group known as the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), dedicated to research trials in HIV and AIDS. The unit's research team includes specialized research nurses, doctors, and support staff committed to providing excellent care. The staff works with research patients and primary care physicians to coordinate the HIV care of each patient. They remain committed to generate high quality research.
Patients usually participate in trials on an outpatient basis. They continue to receive treatment for non-study related diagnoses from their own primary care provider.
