Welcome to the Division

The Nephrology Division at the University of Rochester Medical Center is enthusiastic about patient care, education, and research. The division provides all of the inpatient and outpatient Nephrology care to patients at Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, and FF Thompson Hospital, including an excellent kidney and kidney/pancreas transplant program.

Our nephrologists currently serve as medical directors for 12 dialysis units, providing care to over 600 dialysis patients. We have a rapidly expanding home dialysis program and our proportion of patients on Peritoneal Dialysis or Home Hemodialysis exceeds national averages.

We provide ongoing care to 650 kidney transplant recipients, and supportive care to liver, heart, and pancreas transplant patients. Our nephrologists work closely with the Advanced Heart Failure Program at URMC, providing Nephrologic care to patients with Ventricular Assist Devices and Total Artificial Heart Implantation.

We have a diverse group of physicians interested in the entire spectrum of Nephrology Services, including nationally recognized expertise in Nephrolithiasis.

Our Nephrology Training Program is a 2-year clinical fellowship. We accept 3 fellows per year, and are proud to foster the education of our trainees.

We have an active research enterprise involving a number of principal investigators with funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, private foundations, and pharmaceutical companies.
