Pediatric Links with the Community (PLC) Program
“Because health is more than medical care”
The Pediatric Links with the Community Program, or PLC as
it is best known, is an innovative partnership between the University
of Rochester Department of Pediatrics, Medicine-Pediatrics, Family
Medicine, School of Nursing, Community and Preventive Medicine,
Psychology and Rochester community-based agencies that serve children
and their families. The goals of this collaboration are to:
- Enhance residents', fellows' and medical students' knowledge about community-oriented and community-based health care, especially for those children who lack access to care because of social or economic conditions or special health needs
- Implement meaningful partnerships between the pediatric, medicine-pediatric, family medicine residency programs, nurse practitioner students, and community-based organizations in order to teach residents and students and benefit children
- Inspire future health care professionals to improve the health of children in their communities

To inspire and enable health care professionals to participate in community-based partnerships, evidence-based programs, and advocacy to improve the health of children and families.
