The Division of Neonatology has a long and distinguished history of educating Neonatologists who have gone on to positions of leadership in both national and international medicine. The three-year, ACGME accredited, Neonatology Fellowship fully meets the requirements of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine subspecialty board of the American Board of Pediatrics. The program provides intensive training in clinical care of high-risk newborns in a Level IV NICU (including ECMO, HFOV, and iNO), a Level II Special Care Nurseries and a 13-county referral region. Fellows acquire active clinical and/or laboratory based research experience including study design, institutional review, study performance, analysis, presentation and publication.

Traditional Basic Science/Clinical Science Concentration
In the traditional fellowship track, the fellow is encouraged over the three-year fellowship to have significant involvement in either clinical research or laboratory-based research. Within the first six months, each fellow identifies an area of interest and a mentor. Fellows may participate in the wide range of clinical/translational and basic research conducted by Neonatology faculty. With permission of the Program Director, research may be based in other departments or divisions, particularly if the fellow enters training with previous research experience. A Scholarship Oversight Committee consisting of at least three faculty members, including one from outside the Neonatology Division, will provide regular input and guidance.
Combined Program: Master of Public Health (MPH)—Clinical Investigation Track
Since 1999, the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine has offered a Masters program that focuses on health services research training for clinicians. Those completing this program receive the degree, Master of Public Health (40 credits). The primary objective is to train individuals to combine clinical knowledge and health services research. The academic program awards a recognized credential indicating expertise in clinical epidemiology, clinical decision-making, and the evaluation of health care services.
Core courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, health institutions, environmental and occupational health, and social and behavioral health are required. With permission from the Program Director, a fellow may apply for admission to this program. Although the degree can be successfully completed in three years in conjunction with the Neonatology Fellowship, in many cases the MPH thesis work may require an additional 6-12 months. The MPH thesis satisfies the fellowship requirement for a mentored research project.
Combined Program: Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA)—Medical Management (MMM)
The Masters in Medical Management (MMM) part-time program is offered by the Simon School of Business to provide physicians and medical professionals with management tools to enable independent management of their health care organizations.
The Master’s program teaches practical business skills and facilitates a basic understanding of the key business issues that confront medical professionals.The program includes four quarters of course work – business core classes and health care management classes – one night per week and one weekend per month. The fifth quarter includes a team project that provides experience and confidence in applying the skills acquired in the classroom. This project can fulfill the scholarly activity requirements of fellowship
Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MHPE)
The MHPE is an innovative and interdisciplinary program for health care professionals who want to develop their leadership and teaching skills in health care education. It is offered through collaboration of the Warner School of Education, the School of Nursing, and the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester.
The program includes a total of 30 credits, with five core courses establishing foundational knowledge in teaching and learning in higher education and educational research methods.
