Cardiology Fellowship
Seminars and Conferences
The fellow participates in the conferences and postgraduate programs
sponsored by the Division of Pediatric Cardiology and the Children's
Heart Center. The fellow will also be responsible for informal and formal
presentations to the medical students and residents on the Cardiology
service on topics relating to the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease
in children.

Weekly
Cardiac Catheterization Conference
This
conference is part of the Clinical Management Conference. The fellow
or attending faculty member will review clinical, non-invasive, and
cath data on each patient cathed that week. The fellow associated with
that case will participate in the ensuing discussion and include the
results of that discussion in his/her cath report.
Clinical Management Conference
This conference
provides the cardiology team the opportunity to discuss each patient
scheduled for cath or surgery in the upcoming week. At this time, surgical
approach is discussed on those patients scheduled for surgery. For the
cath patients, the discussion centers around information to be gathered,
blood tests to be run, potential interventions, etc. In addition, cardiology
providers may present patients who present difficult or interesting
clinical management problems for discussion.
Echocardiography Conference
This conference
is for the fellows, echo faculty, and sonographers. Discussions may
focus on a particular interesting echo performed in the last week or
may be a didactic discussion of a particular topic related to echocardiography.
Educational Conference
This is a weekly didactic lecture series,
which covers all aspects of Pediatric Cardiology. The fellows and faculty present
the lectures.
Monday Morning Report Conference
The entire Pediatric
Cardiology Team gathers to review in-hospital patient activity from the
previous weekend.
Monthly
Adults with Congenital Heart Disease
Representatives from
Adult and Pediatric Cardiology review topics relevant to both groups.
Journal Club
This conference
serves to review current literature on a topic pertinent to the practice
of clinical pediatric cardiology. The fellows will rotate responsibility
for presenting the journal articles reviewed.
Morbidity and Mortality Conference
This
conference reviews all mortality on the cardiology service and all significant
morbidity. The fellow on the inpatient service will compile data on
each of these patients and present them at the conference. Following
the discussion, the fellow will prepare a formal report detailing the
