Gastroenterology/Nutrition Fellowship
The University of Rochester Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship is a three-year program designed to prepare physicians as experts in clinical Gastroenterology / Nutrition and to provide them with the ability to perform clinical and/or laboratory research as independently funded physician scientists and teachers.
Program Goals
- For each fellow to grasp a complete understanding of how to determine the difference between normal and pathologic states relating to the gastrointestinal system
- Develop skills to successfully generate a differential diagnosis and institute appropriate evaluation and management of each child presenting with the following conditions:
- Failure to thrive
- Jaundice
- Malabsorption
- Gastrointestinal allergy
- Peptic Ulcer Disease
- Liver failure and liver transplantations
- Digestive tract anomalies
- Chronic inflammatory bowel disease
- Functional bowel disorders
- Pancreatitis
- Evolution of gastrointestinal tract problems in the immunocompromised host
- Motility
- Metabolic liver disease
- Infections
- Provide comprehensive experience in laboratory and/or clinical research including experimental methods and design, statistical analysis, grant writing and publications
- Build teaching skills and offer continuing medical education
