Nephrology Fellowship
Clinical Training
Consultation and Inpatient Care
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology provides consultations for Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, a quaternary care referral center for upstate New York. Under the guidance of an attending and with the assistance of a pediatric resident or student, the trainee is responsible for providing kidney consultations for this 168 bed pediatric service and for overseeing the management of all children on the Pediatric Nephrology inpatient service. Together, attendings and fellows perform daily rounds. Trainees evaluate and formulate a plan of action and then present the findings and plan to the Nephrology attending.
On the consultation and inpatient service, fellows learn to perform and interpret kidney biopsies through extensive interaction and a monthly conference with our Kidney Pathologists (Bruce Goldman and Bernard Panner). Fellows have the opportunity to learn the interpretation of immunofluorescence, light and electron microscopic findings. Fellows also have close interactions with Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Radiology/Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine staff for assistance with the evaluation of pediatric kidney patients.
Fellows will be part of an interdisciplinary team and will interact closely with nutritionists, social workers, nurse practitioners, and pediatric pharmacy services.
Clinical areas of focus include:
- Consultation and Inpatient Care
- Dialysis Services
- Pre- and Postoperative Transplant Care
- Outpatient Service
