Clinical Training

Outpatient Service

Nephrology Fellows spend approximately two half days per week in clinic during the first year and one half day per week in the active outpatient Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension and Lipid clinics second and third year of training, under the supervision of Nephrology faculty.

Fellows gain expertise in the management of common outpatient nephrological conditions, such as:

This arrangement assures the continuity of care and exposes fellows to the progression of renal disease. Additional time can be scheduled as needed in the outpatient facility to evaluate acutely ill kidney patients.

A Clearance Unit has been established in the outpatient treatment center facility for the performance of cimetidine creatinine clearances, water loads, acidification tests, and concentration tests.  Here, fellows master all calculations relevant to kidney function.
