Introduction to Translational Science Course

This 30-week course provides resources to help you define clinical and translational science, understand the fundamental research methodologies involved in clinical and translational research, describe team science principles, and improve your written communication skills.

Goals

This course will help you:
  • Define clinical and translational science and its components
  • Understand the fundamental research methodologies involved in clinical and translational research
  • Describe the principles of team science
  • Enhance written communication skills

Enroll

To access this course, you must enroll in the CTSI Research Education Hub on Blackboard:

  1. Log into learn.rochester.edu using your UR/URMC Active Directory credentialslearn.rochester.edu interface with Courses and Course Catalog highlighted in yellow.
  2. Select the Courses tab.
  3. If you are already enrolled, CTSI Research Education Hub will be listed among your "CONTINUOUS" courses. Select that.
  4. Scroll down to Learning Modules and select it.
  5. Find the Introduction to Translational Science Course and select it.

If CTSI Research Education Hub is not listed:

  1. Log into learn.rochester.edu using your Active Directory credentials.
  2. Select the Courses tab on the left-hand toolbar, then select the Course Catalog option in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Search for "CTSI Research Education Hub" in the search catalog box, ensuring the creation date is before the current date, and click "Go."
  4. Hover over "SMD.CTSI.BERD" and click the dropdown arrow, then select "Enroll."
  5. The UR CTSI Research Education Hub should now be in your Course List.

Eligibility

University of Rochester investigators are welcome to enroll.

Current Course

The course covers the following modules. Each week contains about one hour of video content and some readings:
  • Module 1: What is Translational Science
  • Module 2: Developing a Research Question and Conducting a Literature Review
  • Module 3: Principles of Clinical Research Design
  • Module 4: Principles of Community Engagement
  • Module 5: Rigor and Reproducibility
  • Module 6: Regulatory Science and Regulatory Considerations in Translational Science
  • Module 7: Team Science
  • Module 8: Dissemination and Implementation Science
  • Module 9: Use Cases in Advancing Translational Science, Regulatory Science, and Public Health
