Sponsor a Human Subject Research Coordinator Trainee

Departments can sponsor a human subject research coordinator trained by UR CTSI. Upon completion of their training, candidates can fill coordinator roles and become eligible for promotion six months after their hire date to Human Subject Research Specialist I.

Features

The Human Subject Research Coordinator Training Program helps departments hire trained research coordinators without the burden of internal training. Departments sponsor trainees who attend an eight-week training program administered by UR CTSI. After completing their training, they join the department team ready to contribute and become eligible for promotion to Human Subject Research Specialist I (HSRS 1) six months after their hire date.

Key Benefits for Departments

  • Reduced training burden: UR CTSI handles the core training, allowing research teams to focus on study-specific onboarding and not on training a new hire who is new to the field.
  • Help with hiring: UR CTSI will help pre-screen applicants, so teams only interview the best candidates.
  • Faster onboarding: Candidates are trained in institutional processes and clinical research fundamentals before working with research teams.
  • Retention-focused career path: The HR-approved promotion track boosts morale and retention. Departments can initiate the promotion process early, with the HSRS I title taking effect six months after their hire date.

What Trainees Learn

After completing the program, trainees are equipped to support a wide range of clinical research activities, including:

  • Informed consent
  • IRB submissions
  • Phlebotomy
  • Research subject visits
  • Data collection and management
  • Participant recruitment
  • Completing case report forms
  • Maintaining study documentation

Departments only need to provide study-specific or site-specific training.

To get started, request a consultation. Training sessions are held in January and July each year.
