Health Research and Clinical Trials Website Connects You to Research
The newly redesigned Health Research and Clinical Trials website is making it easier for patients and community members to get involved with research that makes an impact on the lives of patients in Rochester and beyond.
University of Rochester Medicine connects patient care with innovation to advance healthcare. That work begins with health research and clinical trials that are accessible to all. As part of a broader ecosystem of health research resources supported by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the new Health Research website serves as a public-facing hub to link community members with information on research studies.
“The new website shows what it’s really like to take part in a study and how it’s easier than ever for a community member to get involved,” said Carrie Dykes, PhD, operations director of the Research Services branch of CTSI. “It also illustrates the human side of research by sharing testimonials from former participants and stories that illustrate why research matters.”
People interested in joining a study can add their name to the CTSI-managed volunteer registry or search for studies via Studypages. Studypages is a web-based platform that allows research teams to list studies and communicate with people interested in or actively participating in research.
“We learned from the analytics of our previous website that searching for studies was the top reason people visited,” Dykes said. “We wanted to make sure that finding studies was front and center in the redesign.”
The new website also includes Frequently Asked Questions, local and national study subject volunteer registries, research news stories, the Empowering the Participant Voice report, and testimonials from actual study subjects.
“Visiting the website is the best way to get involved with research as a study participant,” Dykes said. “We connect people with active studies involving pediatric care, cancer, vaccine development, and more. Our goal is to inform and empower people who are interested in making a difference in health research, as well as to give the research teams the tools they need to successfully recruit and retain study subjects.”
The CTSI is supporting a social media campaign through June to inform the community about Health Research and Clinical Trials. Research teams interested in learning more are encouraged to visit the website and contact the Research Help Desk.
