The Department of Biomedical Genetics (BMG) investigates how cell regulation and signaling pathways control complex biological processes, including stem cell maintenance and differentiation, cancer, aging, and organism development. There is a focus on genetically tractable human disease models. Multidisciplinary research using state-of-the-art approaches in cell biology, genetics, genomics, systems and computational biology is conducted in the department.
Excellence in graduate education is a high priority in the Department. Faculty members are affiliated with multiple Ph.D. programs. Most are members of the Genetics, Genomics and Development Program. The Department offers a number of lecture courses in the areas of cell biology, genetics, genomics, systems biology and biomedicine.
