Robert N. Brown, MS, CPO, FAAOP

Chief of Orthotics and Prosthetics

Robert has been with the University of Rochester Medical Center since 1997, serving as department Chief since 2000.

Robert received his BS in Orthotics and Prosthetics from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1988. Robert successfully completed the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) board examinations, earning the title Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist in 1991. In 1996 he earned an MS degree in Allied Health Administration and Education from the University of Connecticut.

Robert spent four years teaching Lower Extremity Orthotics with the Newington Certificate Program in Orthotics and Prosthetics (NCP) where he also served as Orthotics Curriculum Coordinator. He served three years as the NCP Representative to the National Association of Orthotic and Prosthetic Educators.

In 2001 he was awarded the title Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, a designation awarded to practitioners who have reached the highest recognition of personal achievement in Academy education through the Certificate Programs for Professional Development.

Robert serves on the Board of Directors of the Academy where he chairs the Professional Issues Council. He also serves on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Amputee Coalition of America, and the Exam Development Committee for the ABC.

Robert specializes in lower extremity prosthetic management, myoelectric control of upper limb prosthesis and pediatric orthotic management with a special interest in cerebral palsy and myelomeningocele.
