Nephrology Fellowship
Nephrology Seminar and Conference Offerings
Trainees attend regularly scheduled conferences, many of which are shared with the division of Adult Nephrology. This close collaboration with our Medicine colleagues provides a vital source of additional faculty and trainees with diverse interests for participation in an array of academic conferences including the Pathophysiology conference, the Nephrology Journal Club, and the Nephrology Research Conference.
- Nephrology Journal Club
During the Nephrology Journal Club, held weekly, a recent article from the nephrology literature is reviewed. Trainees participate under the supervision of a faculty member to assure the quality of the articles selected and presentation thereof. Particular emphasis is placed on articles which stress mechanisms of disease or basic biological processes. - Weekly Clinical Conference
At the weekly Clinical Conference fellows or residents present an in-depth review of a particularly interesting kidney topic, related to a current clinical case. One week is devoted to reviewing the status of all dialysis patients and one for reviewing the status of transplant evaluation and of long term kidney transplant patients. - Fellows' Pathophysiology Conference
Fellows' Pathophysiology conference meets weekly. Trainees and selected faculty members read and discuss an entire nephrology text over the course of the year. - Nephrology Research Conference
The Nephrology Research conference offers faculty members and trainees the opportunity to present their latest research to the entire Nephrology group. On occasion, guest lecturers from outside the division or institution are invited to present their research at this conference. - Renal Pathology Conference
At the Renal Pathology conference pediatric kidney biopsies are reviewed with a kidney pathologist. A unique multi-headed microscope allows the Pathology and Nephrology attendings and fellows to review the biopsy slides together. This strong interaction facilitates learning kidney pathology and sparks lively discussions about prognosis and treatment. - City-Wide Nephrology Conference
A city-wide Nephrology conference provides a relevant kidney topic to the entire nephrology community in Rochester. Invited speakers may be locally or nationally known and provide lectures with a focus on current clinical nephrology topics. - Pediatric GU X-Ray Conference
Once a month the Pediatric Nephrologists and Pediatric Urologists meet at Pediatric GU x-ray conference to present and discuss patients with congenital and acquired GU disorders common to the two services. - In addition, the University of Rochester and the Medical Center host a wide variety of lectures, conferences and seminars which are open to our trainees.
- Weekly Pediatric Grand Rounds, presented by faculty members and invited speakers, covers a broad spectrum of topics of interest to community and academic pediatricians.
- At Morning Report, which meets four days a week, the most interesting new admissions are presented for discussion of diagnosis and management by the house staff and faculty. This session is generally attended by Nephrology faculty in rotation.
- The Noon House Staff conference provides didactic sessions throughout the year. It is expected that the trainee will attend those pediatric conferences relevant to the performance of clinical nephrology.
