What is Pediatric Physical Therapy?
Pediatric Physical Therapy through University of Rochester Medicine's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) outpatient clinic provides a comprehensive evaluation and assessment followed by individualized treatments designed to meet your child’s unique needs. Our pediatric physical therapy program helps individuals from infancy through teenage years with a variety of conditions to improve their function. Our physical therapists have the expertise to guide children through comprehensive therapy programs that will address their functional deficits and needs based on age and developmental level. Each treatment program is developed with the input of the child and family, as well as collaboration with the physician and other ancillary services (OT, SLP, etc.). We take into account all of the needs of the children that we treat, including adaptive equipment needs, with our equipment clinic. (Our loan closet for adaptive equipment is coming soon!) Our goal is to help each infant, child, and teen to reach their maximum potential!

Cathlyn (Kate) Corrado, PT, DPT, PCS (she/her/hers)

Senior Pediatric Physical Therapist / Pediatric PT Residency Director
Kate graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2010 from the University of Southern California. As our Pediatric PT site manager, she works hard to create a positive environment as well as promote the highest standards of care for our team. As our Physical Therapy Residency Director, she coordinates an intensive year-long training program for therapists focused specifically on pediatric rehabilitation. She has also published research in the area of pediatric concussion management, taught within the DPT program at D’Youville University, and created a product for babies with umbilical hernias called “The Navel Cradle.”
Dylan Gawinski Stern, PT, DPT, PCS (she/her/hers)
Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy
Dylan graduated from Ithaca College with a BS in Clinical Health Studies and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Dylan's experience across ages and various pediatric settings led her to join the URochester Medicine pediatric therapy team in 2022. Dylan is board-certified in pediatric physical therapy. She treats a variety of pediatric disorders from birth to early adulthood through therapeutic engagement, purposeful play, and family involvement. She is involved as a mentor in the residency program, Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Program and Bowel and Bladder treatment. When not at work, Dylan loves to be outside with her dogs, in the garden, staying active, and getting creative with any and all art, craft, and home projects.
Sara Karman, PT, DPT, PCS (she/her/hers)
Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy
Sara is a board-certified pediatric clinical specialist. She graduated from PT school in 2017 with her doctorate from Ithaca College and began working as a school-based physical therapist. For over 7 years, Sara worked in a school for children with complex physical, medical, cognitive, and behavioral needs. In January of 2025, she made the switch to URochester Medicine to get involved as a mentor and faculty member in their pediatric PT residency program. Her PT passions include working with individuals who are transitioning from school age into the community, durable medical equipment, and working with individuals with significant physical, behavioral, and cognitive needs. Sara has also completed Level I training in the Rigo Concept-BSPTS for Scoliosis. She is involved in the American Physical Therapy Association as the co-chair of the pediatric section mentoring subcommittee. Sara is also an ACSM-certified personal trainer and a certified group exercise instructor with experience working with adults and children of all ability levels. In her free time, Sara loves to work out, cook, try out new restaurants, travel, and spend time with her family.
Jillian Riley, PT, DPT, PCS (she/her/hers)
Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy
Jillian received her BS in Health Science with a concentration in Kinesiology from St. Bonaventure University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Daemen University. In 2025, Jillian had the honor of being the first pediatric resident at University of Rochester and has joined the URochester Medicine pediatric therapy team full time this year. She treats a variety of pediatric disorders from birth to 21 years old with focus on therapeutic play; purposeful exercises while incorporating family engagement throughout. She also practices within the pediatric motion analysis lab at URochester Medicine, working with children 4-21 with various diagnoses that impact their gait patterns.
Caitlyn Nowak, PT, DPT (she/her/hers)
Pediatric Physical Therapy Resident
Caitlyn graduated from Daemen University in 2025 with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She is the second resident to participate in the University of Rochester Pediatric Physical Therapy program. The residency is a yearlong intensive training program to become a pediatric specialist in physical therapy. She is excited to continue learning about pediatric development and rehab and is passionate about helping kids achieve their highest level of function.
