Who is on the Pediatric Rapid Response Team?
When your child is in the hospital, there is a whole team of experts working together to keep them safe and healthy. Here are some of the important people who may help care for your child:
- Pediatric Admitting Officer (Medical Lead) – This doctor will make the big medical decisions about your child’s care. They help plan treatments and make sure your child is getting the right help from the right team.
- Pediatric Clinical Resource Nurse (Nursing Lead) – This nurse makes sure the bedside nurses have what they need to take care of your child. They also guide and support the nursing team.
- Covering Provider – This is the doctor or advanced practice provider (APP) in charge of your child’s care on any given day and time. They check on your child, make changes to treatments if needed, and answer your questions.
- Pediatric Transport Nurse – If your child needs to be moved to a different part of the hospital, this specially trained nurse goes with them to keep them safe during the move.
- PICU Charge Nurse – This nurse is a leader in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where the sickest children are cared for. They help make sure children in the PICU get the best care, and they support the nurses who work there.
- Pediatric Respiratory Therapist – This expert helps children who have trouble breathing. They give oxygen, use breathing machines (ventilators), and make sure your child is getting enough air.
- Bedside Nurse – This is the nurse who spends the most time with your child. They give medicine, check on your child’s health, and keep them comfortable during their hospital stay.
- Unit Charge Nurse – This nurse helps make sure everything on the hospital floor runs smoothly. They support the bedside nurses, fix problems, and make sure all the children on the unit are getting good care.
- Chaplain – The hospital chaplain is here to give emotional and spiritual support. They can listen, talk, pray, or just be there if you need someone during hard times. They are here for all families, regardless of beliefs.
- Child’s Parent/Caregiver – As your child’s parent or caregiver, you are an important part of the care team. We will work with you to make decisions together and keep you updated. If you're not present when a Pediatric RRT is called, someone from our team will call you to let you know what’s happening.
