Give a Gift with Impact

Why Endow a Professorship?

In today’s economy, resources to support our clinical, research and education missions are declining. Schor installationEndowed Professorships, also referred to as Endowed Chairs, have become an extremely valuable type of funding that secures the longevity of our programs.

Endowed Professorships are awarded to faculty who are viewed as having demonstrated exceptional vision and services critical to the missions of their fields and institutions. These awards are one of the highest honors bestowed by the academic community.

Funding a professorship enables a donor to...

  • Get in on the ground-floor of important initiatives relating to research, teaching, or clinical care
  • Hold a major role in launching a program that will make an impact
  • Sustain an intellectual relationship with the recipient
  • Possess an inside track on new discovery and initiatives

A donor may have a personal, emotional, or intellectual connection to a specific professorship. For example, if a family member is terminally affected by a disease, a donor may wish to endow a particular faculty whose research investigates advancements with that disease. In many cases a donor may simply realize there is a strong need for a particular service, type of research or a need to recruit a subspecialty physician to Rochester.
