Building Confidence, Advancing Excellence

When Dr. Maripeny Kouskouki first learned about Eastman, she was living thousands of miles away in Argos, Greece.

"Eastman is well recognized within the dental community in Greece," she said. "After interacting with Eastman alumni and learning about their experiences, I became truly impressed by the program's high academic standards and clinical excellence."

Drawn by the opportunity to pursue advanced education in the United States, Kouskouki made the decision to move abroad – a choice that would shape the next three years of her life.

Now completing both an Orthodontics residency and a Master's degree, Kouskouki reflects on an experience that challenged her, expanded her perspective, and helped her grow.

"Being surrounded by highly experienced mentors has allowed me to continuously develop my clinical skills and deepen my knowledge," she said. "I also gained valuable research experience, strengthening my ability to critically evaluate evidence and contribute to academic work. Overall, I have become a more confident, thoughtful, and well-rounded clinician."

Her research efforts were also recently recognized with an award from the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, and she is currently preparing her work for journal publication.

Though she is looking forward to returning home to pursuing a career in private orthodontic practice, Kouskouki says the friendships, mentorship, and experiences she found at Eastman will remain with her long after graduation.

Kouskouki received first place for her clinical case display at the American Association of Orthodontists Annual Meeting.

"EIOH truly feels like a family," she said. "Embrace every moment, engage with your faculty and fellow residents, and take full advantage of the opportunities around you. Residency goes by quickly, so make the most of your experience, continue learning, and take pride in being part of the Eastman community. Your journey here will be unforgettable."
