Donate Spare Change and Create a Miracle Mile of Quarters

How many quarters does it take to span a mile? The Finger Lakes and GeneseeKiwanis Clubs are asking you to help them answer that question when they collect quarters for Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center during events in March and April.
For 29 years, the Finger Lakes and Genesee Kiwanis Clubs have supported Golisano Children’s Hospital. For the past six years, that support has included their Quarter Mile of Quarters event, where the clubs come together trying to collect enough quarters to span a quarter-mile. This year, the Finger Lakes division of Kiwanis aims to quadruple their goal to reach a Miracle Mile of Quarters.
Finger Lakes Kiwanis Club Member Peg Bobzin knows firsthand this event’s importance. She had her first experience with Golisano Children’s Hospital five years ago, when she and a friend volunteered to answer phones at the annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. Just six months later, Bobzin and her family found themselves relying on Golisano Children’s Hospital to help her granddaughter, Kennedy, who was born with a serious heart condition and in need of open heart surgery.
“We are raising money for our most prized possessions, our children, so that they can live healthy lives and become our future,” Bobzin said.
The Finger Lakes Kiwanis division’s event is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Eastview Mall in Victor. Volunteers will be collecting quarters and other donations. Patients who have been treated at Golisano Children’s Hospital will receive a special sticker with any donation. Those donating $10 or more will get a pin featuring Golisano Children’s Hospital mascot Sandy Strong. The Genesee division’s Quarter Miler of Quarters event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Marketplace Mall.
