Dr. Sharon Elad’s research was recently published in the journal with the highest impact factor (508.72) CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. The chair of EIOH's Oral Medicine Department's study is titled “The broadening scope of oral mucositis and oral ulcerative mucosal toxicities of anticancer therapies.”

Oral mucositis is a common, highly symptomatic complication of cancer therapy which impacts patients’ function, quality of life and ability to tolerate treatment. In certain cancer patients, oral mucositis is associated with increased mortality. Oral mucosal toxicities are also reported in targeted and immune check-point inhibitors therapies. This paper presents current knowledge about the epidemiology, pathogenesis, assessment, risk prediction, and current and developing intervention strategies for oral mucositis and other ulcerative mucosal toxicities due to both conventional and evolving forms of cancer therapy.
