Eastman Institute for Oral Health Director Elected to National, State Posts

Cyril Meyerowitz, D.D.S., M.S., director of the Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center has been named chair of the Council on Dental Education and Licensure, an American Dental Association agency dedicated to promoting high quality and effective processes of dental education, licensure and credentialing in the U.S.

Meyerowitz, of Pittsford, was also elected Chair of the New York State Academic Dental Centers which includes EIOH and the dental schools at Columbia University, New York University, University of Buffalo and SUNY at Stony Brook. Through joint advocacy and cooperative working relationships with state agencies, the group works to improve oral health of all New Yorkers through enhanced dental education research and clinical care.

He serves as chair and professor of the Department of Dentistry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and has been active in research initiatives related to salivary function, and oral health for those with HIV, chronic renal failure, and those who have undergone head and neck radiation.

Meyerowitz is widely published and has served on the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation and the American Dental Education Association’s Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and is frequently a keynote speaker at oral health meetings around the world.

Eastman Institute for Oral Health is a world leader in research and post-doctoral education in general and pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. Patients are seen at many sites throughout the Rochester community.
