Emotional Reunion Raises Awareness About Organ Donation

May. 1, 2016

Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network concluded a busy Donate Life Month with an emotional reunion April 29 at UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital that left few dry eyes in the house.

Southern Tier residents Holly and Andy Campbell shared the story of their 11-week-old son, Jake, who passed away in 2007. Joining them were Kim and Nathan Scadlock, whose newborn son, Beckham, was diagnosed with heart defects and wouldn’t survive without a new transplant. The Campbell’s selfless decision saved Beckham’s life. When he was just  2 weeks old, Beckham received Jake’s heart at a children’s hospital in Iowa. Today, he is a thriving, active 9-year-old.

This video captures the families’ stories of loss, healing and a beautiful friendship that has blossomed since one family faced tragedy, but saw beyond themselves to share the ultimate gift of life with another.
