Golisano Children’s Hospital Recognized by U.S. News and World Report

UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital has been recognized as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in two specialty areas in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital rankings.
The 2019-2020 rankings, released online Tuesday, placed the children’s hospital’s neonatology program at No. 38 nationally and the nephrology program at No. 41.
“Every day, our team of pediatric specialists strives to provide the best, most compassionate care to our patients and their families — and this recognition is the result of those efforts,” said Patrick Brophy, M.D., the William H. Eilinger Professor and Chair of Pediatrics and the Physician-in-Chief of Golisano Children’s Hospital. “We are proud to be considered among our nation’s best children’s hospitals.”
The Division of Neonatology provides care for critically ill and premature newborns, and treats more than 1100 infants every year. The division is staffed by 19 physicians, approximately nine physician trainees, 35 advanced practice providers, and 300 nurses. The Gosnell Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only Level IV NICU in the 14-county region.
“Our team is very pleased to receive this recognition,” said Carl D’Angio, M.D., chief of the Division of Neonatology. “The work we do would not be possible without the dedication of our physicians, nurses and other staff and the support we receive from many other specialists, including pediatric surgery and all the surgical subspecialties, obstetrics and gynecology, and many others. It is a true collaborative effort.”
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology provides care for those with kidney disease, reduced renal function, and hypertension, including children requiring a kidney transplant or dialysis.
“The U.S. News rankings recognize our excellent clinicians, our research and training program, as well as our efforts to improve the quality of care nationwide,” said George Schwartz, M.D., chief of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology. “We are thrilled to be recognized in this year’s rankings.”
The U.S. News and World Report rankings feature the 50 best children’s hospitals in each of 10 pediatric specialties. Over the past eight years, Golisano Children’s Hospital has appeared in the top 50 in six of the 10 categories.
