Halloween Won’t Be Scary for Kids at Golisano Children’s Hospital
Halloween doesn’t necessarily need to be a scary time of year. Spirit Halloween stores will bring some spooky fun to our community’s children and their families, by raising funds for Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center to through their 10 for 10 coupon program. Valid through Sunday, Oct. 23, local Spirit Halloween stores are offering coupons for 10 percent off a customer’s total purchase. When a customer uses the coupon, 10 percent of the proceeds of their purchase will be donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Since the event began in 2007, more than $4.6 million in cash and merchandise has been donated to more than 100 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Over the past five years, Spirit Halloween stores have donated nearly $40,000 to Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Wendy Lane, Director of Child Life at Golisano Children’s Hospital said “The Child Life department is so appreciative of the time and effort they put in to making a difference in the children and families of Golisano Children’s Hospital.”
The specialists in Child Life are focused on helping children cope with the fear and anxiety associated with a hospital stay. They work to explain to kids what they are going through, in terms they can understand. The donations to Golisano Children’s Hospital have purchased a computer for the activity room, an iPod, furniture for the playrooms and various equipment and toys designed for children with physical challenges, among many other items.
