Saturday, Jan. 24, Feb. 7: Second Annual Battle of the Beaks Calls Back Sports Enthusiasts

Nazareth College’s Golden Flyers will compete against local rivals, St. John Fisher Cardinals, for Nazareth’s biggest basketball competition of the year. The women’s teams will play first at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, and the men’s teams will follow in this 2nd annual sporting event, which will be held at Nazareth College in Pittsford. Proceeds from admission, T-shirts, raffles and money from concession sales will all go to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong’s neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Last year, the game and a semi-formal for athletes raised $17,200 for the hospital. To order tickets for the game, which are $5 each, please call Lindsay Thomas at (585) 389-2186.

A few weeks before the game at Nazareth, St. John Fisher is stepping up the competition by also raising money at the Fisher vs. Nazareth basketball game that Fisher is hosting. “I really see the battle as a combined effort between the two games,” said Mike Fahy, one of the event’s organizers. On top of donating proceeds from the gate, there will also be a 50/50 prize raffle and an event for students put on by the student athletic advisory. The women’s game will tip off and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and the men’s game will follow at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and will go on sale beginning Thursday, Jan. 22. They can be purchased by calling Jennifer Granger at (585) 385-8315 or by visiting the Student Life Center on the St. John Fisher campus.

Tickets to this year’s dinner dance are $30 per person and $50 per couple. The event will commence at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at the River’s Edge Party House on 31 Paul Road.
