Local High School Students Feature Works in URMC Spring Art Exhibit
The Bridge Art Gallery, a project of the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Rochester Medical Center, celebrates spring with a colorful new exhibit – “Life Is” – featuring 35 high school artists. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23.
The exhibit includes 52 pieces by local high school art students working in a variety of media. Each frame provides a glimpse into how each artist sees life: self-portraits, hot chocolate, strength, a balance beam, a fisherman.
Participating high schools consist of Allendale Columbia, Brighton, Greece Arcadia, West Irondequoit, Harley School, Our Lady of Mercy, Brockport, North Rose-Wolcott, and Eastridge.
The Bridge Art Gallery was created in 2011 by the Office of Mental Health Promotion in the Department of Psychiatry to provide a space for local artists and the community to enjoy, while also creating a welcoming environment for patients, families, and employees of Strong Behavioral Health. The goal is to diminish the stigma and hesitance associated with entering the Department of Psychiatry.
