Medical Center Adds Five Portable X-ray Units from Carestream
Portable technology improves imaging for patients with most serious illnesses

The University of Rochester Medical Center has added five new portable digital x-ray units to improve care for critically ill patients who need imaging tests that can be provided quickly at the bedside.
URMC purchased CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution Mobile X-Ray Systems to provide immediate access to high-resolution images in Strong Memorial Hospital’s trauma, cardiac, surgical and other critical care units.
The DRX-Revolution System allows physicians to view X-ray images in about three seconds, which can lead to a rapid diagnosis and treatment. The portable system has a long and collapsible column, which allows for better positioning to capture images more easily and with greater flexibility and safety during transportation.
“This new mobile imaging platform provides superb image quality and exceptional maneuverability and enhances communication from the bedside to the radiologists and doctors,” said David Waldman, M.D. Ph.D., chair of Imaging Sciences.
Imaging Sciences radiologic technologists enjoy the lightweight and maneuverable systems, and the flexibility they provide for capturing images.
“The DRX-Revolution improves our processes because of the speed and efficiency of the systems,” Waldman said. “The system’s exceptional maneuverability helps technologists conduct high-quality bedside exams for our inpatients and critical care patients. Excellent quality images are available for viewing in seconds, which allows physicians to make rapid decisions that can improve patient care.”
In addition to providing better visibility and safety, the DRX-Revolution’s collapsible column helps technologists avoid hitting ceiling-mounted monitors, door magnets and other equipment.
