Myra W. Wiener, M.D., Joins URMC Division of General Medicine

The University of Rochester Medical Center’s Department of Medicine welcomes Myra W. Wiener, M.D., to its Division of General Medicine as of July 1.

“We are delighted that Dr. Wiener is joining our division and our faculty-resident practice,” said Marc Berliant, M.D., the Raymond J. Mayewski Professor and chief of the Division of General Medicine. “She has been a highly regarded member of the department of Medicine and an outstanding primary care physician for many years. We look forward to her continuing her exemplary contributions to the education of our future physicians.”

After receiving her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1981, Wiener completed her residency in internal medicine at URMC, where she was also a chief resident. She has been an associate professor of Medicine for the past nine years.   

Over the last two decades, Wiener has assumed several leadership positions in medical education programs involving medical students and residents at both URMC and the former Genesee Hospital. She has served as a preceptor, helped develop and implement new curricula, and delivered lectures for continuing education programs.

Her outstanding skills in the classroom and in clinical settings were recognized with major departmental awards; she received the James M. Stewart Award for teaching in 2009 and the Kohn Senior Teaching Fellow Award two years in a row, from 2003 to 2005. In her new position, she will continue to serve as director of the Successful Interning course and faculty chair of the Honor Board for the School of Medicine and Dentistry.

She is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
